Team PartyPoker’s very own Patrick Leonard came agonisingly close to capturing his second World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet on June 15, when he finished third in the $1,500 Limit 2-7 Triple Draw event. Although bitterly disappointed not to become the tournament’s champion, Leonard banked $60,915, which should go some way to numbing the pain.
Leonard is best known for crushing No-Limit Hold’em tournaments, particularly in the online poker world, where he has amassed more than $18.6 million in earnings. However, the man ranked best in the world for online poker tournaments also has over $2.8 million in live winnings, an impressive numbered that this latest score boosted. Many of his live cashes stem from non-Hold’em events.
At the 2022 WSOP in Las Vegas, Leonard reached the money places in 11 events, seven of which were not traditional Hold’em affairs. This year, to date, Leonard has three in-the-money finishes, one in the $1,500 Limit Hold’em, another in the $10,000 Dealer’s Choice Championship, and one in the $1,500 Limit 2-7 Triple Draw events.
Leonard Finishes Third For $60,915
Some 522 players bought into the 2-7 event, but those players were whittled to 166 on Day 1, with Leonard bagging up 92,000 chips after sitting down with 25,000.
Day 2 ended with only 16 players still in the mix, and Leonard enjoyed an incredible day, one that ended with him bagging up 1,090,000 chips, enough for fifth place on the overnight leaderboard.
One by one, the remaining players fell on the third and final day’s action, and Leonard was still in the mix. However, the popular Brit’s world came crashing down during the 34th level of the tournament when a clash with John Monnette, the champion elect, left Leonard running on fumes.
Leonard committed his stack soon after, and his 9x-7x-6x-4x-2x lost to Christopher Chung’s superior 8x-7x-6x-4x-2x, ending Leonard’s quest for a bracelet two places earlier than he would have liked.
Plenty More Chances to Add a Second Bracelet
Leonard has another 50 or more chances to get his hands on another bracelet before the 2023 WSOP concludes. Leonard bagged a coveted gold bracelet at the 2022 WSOP in the $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em Tag Team event.
Leonard partnered with Espen Jorstad, who, you may recall, went on to take down the 2022 WSOP Main Event for $10 million! The victorious pair defeated the team of Jamie Kerstetter and Corey Paggeot heads-up to clinch the title, a bracelet each, and $74,042in prize money.
